Heavyweight US law giant White & Case was lauded yesterday by law blogs and established law sources alike for being the first law firm to achieve an ignominious feat; a ‘redundancy trifecta’. White & Case announced 400 redun

dancies last week, adding to two previous waves of layoffs in which 1200 employees were made redundant.

This takes the total number of layoffs at White & Case to in excess of 1800, as a result of which it can

boast:

• the highest number of lawyer layoffs;
• the highest number of support-staff layoffs; and
• the highest number of total law firm layoffs.

It seems White & Case can now also claim a fourth achievement:

• the highest percentage of layoffs amongst any international law firm, across the firm since the GFC began.
