Lara Bingle is ‘Coming Off a Low Base’ in Her Defamation Claims

Posted by The Spy | Posted in Firm Gossip, Tresscox Lawyers | Posted on 09-03-2010

Last week Lara Bingle announced an intention to sue AFL footballer Brendon Fevola over the dissemination of of a revealing photograph taken of the model as she showered, allegedly by Fevola.

In relation to her prospects of success, our favourite Tresscox partner Nic Pullen, who is currently retained by former wine-o Derryn Hinch, had the following to say:

Nicholas Pullen says she would “have to prove [the photograph] came from Fevola and then she would have to prove when Fevola sent it off; the reasonable person would expect it to end up in Woman’s Day.”

…”The next step in any defamation formula is: how is it making people think less of Lara Bingle than they already do. Well, she’s coming off a low base on that one. In the version of the photograph I have seen, it doesn’t look like you are seeing terribly much more of Lara Bingle than you have already seen. It would be a bit different if we were looking at a photograph of the Governor-General. So I think you can pretty well safely strike defamation off.”

Do you think Lara Bingle is coming off a low base?

Does your job description entitle you to look at bare-breasted photographs?

Tresscox Partner Nic Pullen, ‘Run of the Mill Pedophiles’ & Derryn Hinch

Posted by The Spy | Posted in Firm Gossip, Tresscox Lawyers | Posted on 23-02-2010

Fresh from apparently going into bat for Black Saturday icon Sam The Koala, Tresscox A-List partner Nic Pullen is ‘pullen’ on the gloves again, but this time for the man dubbed “The Human Headline” Derryn Hinch.

As reported by our good friends at Lawyers Weekly:

Hinch faces five charges for breach of suppression orders under Victoria’s Serious Sex Offenders Monitoring Act 2005 [which he hopes to fight in the High Court]… According to Pullen, Hinch’s case seeks to challenge the act based on various constitutional issues, claiming that it provides for unequal treatment and protection of convicted serious sexual offenders, that it’s contrary to the Constitution’s implied freedom of speech and that it subverts the common law doctrine of open courts.

Pullen said Hinch’s real contention in relation to this is that the act “protects the worst of the worst, when it comes to sexual offenders - repeat serial pedophile offenders … the ones who are most likely to reoffend are protected… If you’re a, so to speak, run of the mill pedophile, or any other criminal for that matter, it [the act] doesn’t apply,” Pullen continued.

At this stage it is unclear what distinguishes a run of the mill pedophile from  any other pedophile, though we fear Tresscox’s Mr Pullen might be involving himself in criminal affairs outside his area of expertise (like our friend Minter Ellison chest-waxer lawyer Eren Myers). What is even less clear, however, is how Derryn Hinch, a reformed wine-o who once confessed to “drinking four bottles of white wine per day”, was able to author a book entitled “The Derryn Hinch Diet”.

Stay tuned for more news as this saga unfolds.

Tresscox; Widespread Redundancies Amid Rumours of Partner Profit Nosedive

Posted by The Spy | Posted in Firm Gossip, GFC Redundancies, Tresscox Lawyers | Posted on 10-06-2009

Die Hard: coming soon to a mid-tier firm near you?
Bringing you the big stories first, the Firm Spy can today reveal some jaw-dropping rumours about national law-firm Tresscox.

We revealed in May rumours of redundancies at Tresscox, a story later picked up, and confirmed by, other news media. The firm did not comment at the time on the full extent of the redundancies.

We received the following information from a Tresscox spy earlier in the week, revealing what the firm spokesperson neglected to mention:

… it is difficult to exaggerate how bad things are here right now. The redundancies that you reported in Melbourne, also occurred here Sydney and also Brisbane. That is, each of our offices was affected… Partner revenue is rumoured to have gotten to a point where salaried partners are presently earning more than equity partners…

If this rumour is true, it would affront recent claims that mid-tier firms are ‘less affected’ by the GFC.  Is this true?  (We don’t know.)  Is your firm feeling the GFC heat?

Tresscox Redundancies; Lawyers & Support Staff Sacked

Posted by The Spy | Posted in GFC Redundancies, Tresscox Lawyers | Posted on 17-05-2009

Workers dicked around at Tresscox
One Tresscox firm spy sends word that at least a dozen workers have been made redundant at mid-tier firm Tresscox.

The sackings, part of the firm’s response to falling workflows and increased capacity, affected junior lawyers in the M&A group.

There is no word from Tresscox on whether this will be the only sackings or whether further redundancies are planned.

Do you think more workers will be dicked around at Tresscocks?  Is your job safe?
