Ever the unpopular leader amongst juniors, Deloitte Chief Executive partner Giam Swiergers has apparently reached a new nadir, though this time with vacation clerks. Giam, elected only days ago to continue in his role as head of Deloitte, has apparently made the very first cost-cut of his new term. And it is a very merry cost cut! This from an anonymous Deloitte spy yesterday: Hi FS,  Just some news in regarding the vacationers at Deloitte. Apparently Deloitte is too cash strapped (or stingy) to invite them to the Christmas party. With a heap of fanfare, Clayton Utz announced on Monday that 6 new partners had been appointed to the firm. The firm said that the appointments reflected the emergency situation where several lawyers were rumoured to be readying themselves to give the partnership an ultimatum "calibre and depth of talent at the firm". You'll recall we reported a rumour that 6 partnership promotions were set to be announced one week prior to the official announcement. We spent a reasonable chunk of the last 48 hours researching the difference between journalism and communications/public relations.  No, we're not "communications professionals", so a bit of research was necessary. For thoe unitiated, communications/PR staff are employed by many professional services firms primarily to shape public perceptions of their firm in positive ways. Part of this role involves regular interaction with journalists: Comms/PR staff are experts in dealing with journalists. They often provide journalists with an "official" comment from the firm on a particular news item which invariably results in the firm being positively perceived in any subsequent news article.
