Clutz have apparently just launched a new iPhone app: just what you always wanted, right? Not so for this spy:
I am absolutely astounded to have received an invitation to download “pocketCU” as an iphone app from Clayton Utz recently – their lawyers are annoying enough in person, I seriously don’t need them on my mobile.
We can only shake our heads in amazement but, yes, it’s true. Straight from the horses mouth, Clutz says of the app:
Laws change – so what does that mean for your business? With PocketCU, you can find Clayton Utz lawyers, articles, videos and audios, and get the answers you need. PocketCU connects you with our lawyers wherever you are.
One can only imagine the painful conversation that must have taken place between management and the IT people who, undoubtedly keen to justify their jobs, were only too happy to smile and nod when the senior partner suggested it might be time to “get one of those app thingies for the ipod”. Fast forward nine months, and we have ourselves a little bundle of joy: “pocketCU” is your essential source of such exciting information as … firm seminar announcements, practice updates, client alerts and (wait for it) staff profiles! You can even save “favourite” staff to your phone for ease of reference. Just what our tipster always wanted.
This powerful tool enables users to quickly build up a pocket-ready legal reference specific to areas of their interest and needs. The application also provides a listing of their lawyers across each of the legal practices and information about their offices and directions to them. Clients and users can save legal updates and will receive alerts so the application is a very convenient source of legal information which users will continue to access.
They will? PocketCU is a free download on the iTunes App Store. Luckily, it’s also a free uninstall.

Clearly Claytons think they are more interesting and important (and leading edge) than their clients do. I work in a relatively small market but from what I hear / see Claytons don’t carry anywhere near the weight they seem to think they do – mediocre app and mediocre work, nice synergy
Wow – why so tough on CU? Did they turn down your trainee application? I don’t see the big issue here. Seems like you’re trying to be negative for the sake of it. There is no real reason to be. They’ve joined numerous firms in developing apps for the iPad and iPhone platform. It is standard practice and simply the next generation of hard copy brochure materials. What’s the big deal FirmSpy – why so grumpy?
Allens launched an iphone app in June this year, DLA Phillips Fox has one, Mallesons…why the attack on Clayton Utz?
‘CU’ means penis in many languages
Well I think it’s much, MUCH better compared to AAR’s super crappy “word game” app.
Read about its “Australian First” announcement here, and download app here if PocketCU has not taken up the last 13.3 Mb of your iPhone.
Apps that actually made a difference and noteworthy are Austlii and the Supreme Court Daily List.
+1
Very anti-Clutz on this site. I can think of worse things a firm could do
I work @ CU and I don’t think it’s anti CU to point out that the iPhone app is a totally lame idea – but to be balanced I think it fair to say that all apps released by firms are a baaaaaad idea – surely firms should realise by now that clients (and lawyers) have better things to do with their free time… And their iPhones
Come to think of it, FirmSpy attacks Clayton Utz more than any other firm. Why do you hate Clayton Utz so much FirmSpy?
