Minters TMT Exodus: Freehills Picks up the Pieces

The Minters TMT group leaving work yesterday
A Freehills spy sends word of an “exodus” said to be underway from the Minters Technology, Media and Telecommunications Practice to Freehills:

So, here at Freehills we want to be leaders in every field, TMT included, it seems. Keith Robinson has joined us as a partner from Minter Ellison and boy has he started the ball rolling there. Word on the street is, along with a secretary and a Senior Associate who have followed Keith from Minters, there are two more lawyers and another Senior Associate on the way! Exodus from Minters!!

Keith Robinson joined Freehills Sydney in August from Minters, where he was co-head of the TMT group.  It looks like he’s bringing his team with him now, secretary included.  At the time, Freehills CEO Gavin Bell commented:

the firm rarely made lateral hires of this nature, but it had identified IT and communications as having strong growth potential [ed: in the "Leading Practices Review?] and was prepared to invest to ensure it had the leading team to offer its clients.”We see a great opportunity to grow our business and are investing heavily in the national practice to support the increasing demand from our clients. This is the case not only in stand alone IT&C projects and services, but also in supporting our leading position in mergers and acquisitions, where IT transitional services often play a key role.”

We contacted Minters to ask them why their TMT team is being decimated, but they didn’t get back to us after two days.  Any staff care to comment?
