In an article profiling the reduction in graduate jobs across major Australian corporate firms, appearing in the AFR (6/7), Corrs Chambers Westgarth national recruitment partner Chris Pagent remarked:
Most firms will decrease the number of offers, which means more competition. It will be an interesting year for clerkship applications and we will be the beneficiaries of that.
As well as being a ‘beneficiary’, Corrs is also the ‘platinum sponsor’ of the Melbourne University Seasonal Clerkship
Corrs can really help accelerate your career… Corrs Chambers Westgarth is one of the country’s most dynamic firms. For young lawyers that means one thing. Opportunity… We want you to reach your full potential and to give you every opportunity to do so.
Lots of ‘opportunity’ … just not as much as last year. Corrs also usefully includes an article in the publication entitled ‘How to Prepare for the Interview’. The article notes:
The interview is your chance to shine!… Do your research. Find out as much as you can about the organisation prior to the interview.
For the two or three students likely to score a graduate job with Corrs, look no further! We have prepared a short list of important things about Corrs that you can read prior to your interview. We want you to shine!
- Corrs was forced to close the doors of its Gold Coast office last year;
- In order to reduce headcount, the firm calculated that it could offer staff a leave of absence whilst paying them a percentage of their wage;
- Many of this year’s graduates were offered $10,000 to defer their start date;
- Many Corrs staff were made redundant; and
- The firm is presently subject to a pay freeze.
