Yammer Hammer; Deloitte Ambassadors Give Grads “Authentic Experience”

Deloitte head of people and performance, Alec Bashinsky, last week revealed that the firm would be calling on staff to act as firm ambassadors to graduates considering a career with Deloitte. It is part of a scheme that Bashinsky hopes will enable the firm to lure 500 graduates in 2012, up from 360 this year. According to  the AFR:

The company has launched an iPhone application that provides updates on career fairs and job opportunities. It has also opened up its internal social network platform, Yammer, to students. An “ask us” tab on the Deloitte Facebook page gives students access to Yammer, where they can ask questions of the firm’s 5000 employees, who can respond directly to students. Mr Bashinsky said Deloitte was one of the few large employers to trust all of its employees to act as ambassadors.

Mr Bashinsky acknowledged that social media channels give potential graduates “a transparent and authentic experience of an organisation”. But why would graduates take the time to trouble Deloitte “ambassadors” when they can get all the dirt they seek from Firm Spy?

To this end, let us walk all graduates considering a Yammer-stammer through a few anonymous Deloitte ambassadorial comments that we have received:

Anonymous Deloitte Private Ambassador

As a Deloitte Private employee i cannot believe how pathetic this company is. They are so behind the other firms having no electronic filng system and only having switched from Sol 6 to APS last year. They have no idea about XPA, timesheets and internal systems are a joke not to mention when you need help with IT you might as well get your dog to help you out as they are absolutely useless! The billing system is the worst system ever, and training on the systems is completely pointless. Morale is at an all time low, pay rises are abysmal, “paperless office” is a term no one has even heard of, meanwhile the partners just lap it up and organise lunches for themselves and whoever they want to take every day for which they claim through the firm and get reimbursed for – but when it comes to birthday lunches or welcome lunches everyone pays their own way? Having worked in many firms Deloitte is by far the most inefficiently run in terms of their systems and procedure. And god help me if i have to see Michael Batchelor swagger around the office one more time like he thinks he’s gods gift to earth! Get over yourself!

Yes, hammer that swagger!

Anonymous Deloitte Financial Services Ambassador

Whats happening with Financial Services Group 1 – John Giannakopoulos’s group? I hear that they made a Principal redundant while they were on sick leave & the other superannuation Principal working for Adele Watson left skid marks to get out of that group… Giannakoupoulos & his co horts are allegedly facing a workers comp matter on the other Principal. Watch those premiums go up. Someone must know whats happening there….& more juniors have left – one to EY & another to Stockland…Feel sorry for the new grads.

Juniors leaving? This can’t be good for grads using Yammer to get an “authentic” and “transparent” experience of the firm.

Anonymous Deloitte Ambassador #3

I can absolutely confirm there was systematic management of employees to leave Deloitte. I was a Director with Deloitte for 2 years and to say that Partners do not live by their values or ‘7 signals‘ is an understatement. Never in my 17 year career have I seen so many displays of inappropriate behaviour… To this day Deloitte is a toxic environment with a facade created by a Marketing machine to win awards for Best Employer and Inspiring Women. These could not be further from the truth.

To sum up, according to our anonymous Deloitte ambassadors, the firm allegedly:

  • is pathetic;
  • is inefficient;
  • facing a worker’s comp matter (perhaps the tipster meant “unfair dismissal”, but who knows (we definitely don’t));
  • systematically managed-out employees;
  • is toxic; and
  • is regularly a witness to inappropriate behaviour.
