Ever the unpopular leader amongst juniors, Deloitte Chief Executive partner Giam Swiergers has apparently reached a new nadir, though this time with vacation clerks.
Giam, elected only days ago to continue in his role as head of Deloitte, has apparently made the very first cost-cut of his new term. And it is a very merry cost cut!
This from an anonymous Deloitte spy yesterday:
Hi FS,Just some news in regarding the vacationers at Deloitte. Apparently Deloitte is too cash strapped (or stingy) to invite them to the Christmas party. Good thing the vaccies are learning this lesson now, because when they start with the firm Uncle Giam will be too stingy to give them payrises, bonuses and many other benefits too.

To my knowledge, most law firms stopped inviting vacation clerks to Christmas parties almost a decade ago. Not always a good look to have the young uni students in the same room as the partners and senior assocs once everyone has had a few.
Well at least one of the others in the big 4 has invited some vaccies to multiple Xmas parties
I know for a fact that PwC invited their vaccies to the Christmas parties a few years ago… Although that might not be the case anymore due to B/S budget cuts from the GFC.
Besides (given the last 12+ months) I hardly think that we should be looking to law firms for best practice on how to look after, motivate, and retain their staff…
Some service lines at Deloitte are not even having a christmas party. So the vaccies are not really missing out. Firmspy…it would be great to start a survey of what grads are starting on next year? I’ve heard on the grapevine that they could be in for a shock if they don’t know already!
Hrmmm, i attended the Audit xmas party on Thursday night and i can say that the vacationers were invited,.. may be its different for the vacationers in the other service lines.
But yeah DTT will only screw them over after they’ve taken up their graduate offers….
Im a vac at Deloitte and that’s defintiely not true. All the vacs in my service line were invited to the Christmas party and some of us have even been told we can attend the tax party next Wed..you might need to check your sources better firmspy!
