According to figures received by the Firm Spy:
- Corrs Chambers Westgarth has 54 graduates starting this year, compared with 49 last year;
- Mallesons is taking on 139 graduates, compared with 134 last year;
- Allens Arthur Robinson is taking on 98 graduates, the same as last year;
- Blake Dawson has 76 graduates starting in this intake, meaning it will likely exceed last year’s total of 80 because the firm has two intakes;
- Herbert Geer is taking on the same number as last year;
- Deacons has 43 graduates starting this year, the same as last year; and
- DLA Phillips Fox is also keeping its intake steady at 39, the same as last year.
Although we haven’t had the accuracy of these figures confirmed, they suggest that the relevant law firms remain confident that workflow will continue. Of course, given that many of these offers were made last March, it’s difficult to know whether this is the result of legitimate optimism or simply poor planning.
