Minters Owed $100k in Fees by Melbourne Storm

Inglis (right) looking smug about unpaid legal fees
It looks like a fees storm is brewing between NRL player Greg Inglis and Minter Ellison, over the $100,000-plus bill racked up after the firm was reportedly engaged to defend his assault charges.  Who knew Minters had such a budding criminal defence practice?

Broncos chief Bruno Cullen yesterday said the matter was between the Storm, the NRL and Inglis’s manager, Allan Gainey.

“It seems to be in a bit of a stalemate at the moment,” Cullen said.

NRL chief executive David Gallop said he expected the matter to be solved. “I’ve been involved in discussions with a number of the parties and I’m hopeful there will be a resolution to the issue shortly,” he said.

The Australian understands Melbourne has to pay the majority of the legal costs given former Storm chief executive Brian Waldron was the one to engaged law firm Minter Ellison to lead Inglis’s defence.

Inglis was cleared of unlawful assault and recklessly causing injury in April this year. The allegations were made in August last year.

Well, this is certainly a surprise after earlier denials from a Minters spy that it has a criminal law practice:

Minter Ellison does not practice criminal law, much less do any of its lawyers openly profess to being qualified to offer criminal law advice …

Looks like that hasn’t stopped at least one partner from cosying up to some naughty NRL lads.  Honestly, why don’t Minters just march down to a Storm training session and strong-arm Inglis to the nearest ATM.  Ah, wait, there are probably no juniors left to do it.  But with their offices falling apart, Minters could certainly use the cash.

How does your firm deal with unpaid bills?
