Not so!
We received the following intel from an anonymous Clutzian spy recently:
Since you haven’t had any news regarding Clayton Utz for a while I thought that I would share this… Someone in HR has decided that they will share some health tips on the intranet (to be fair, one of the tips last week was actually quite good). I clicked on today’s link ( http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Sleep_hygiene ) and must admit to having a chuckle about the sex advice contained in it…
“Use your bedroom only for sleeping and intimacy. If you treat your bed like a second lounge room – for watching television or talking to friends on the phone, for example – your mind will associate your bedroom with activity”
Only a numbnut public servant could write something that inherently contradictory and still maintain a straight face!
Ok, so the sex advice originally came via a governmental department, but we still thought it was an interesting tidbit, certainly from Clutz. The list of tips are available here.
Our Clutz spy continued:
p.s. Clayton Utz is actually not as bad as you have recently made it out to be. Sure, there are probably horrible partners and horrible groups but that’s the same wherever you go. My experience has been really positive and I’m not some career Clutzer who doesn’t know how the legal world really works.
Do you buy it? Do you think Clayton Utz lawyers should use the bedroom for sex and sleep only?

How is this remotely relevant? It’s not a policy endorced by Clutz. I actually think it’s a great idea they are putting forward health and wellbeing tips.
I think this story is very misleading.
How is Izzo a former staffer? The NSW Law Society Registry has him listed as a Clutz employee …
Moreover, what, precisely, is the “inherent contradiction”?
i completely agree with you relevance – it’s great that our law firms are promoting healthy lifestyle advice.
FS are really clutching at straws nowadays if this is breaking news.
Six Minutes – Izzo hasn’t been at Clutz for some time now. The fact he hasn’t updated his practising certificate details with the NSW Law Society is irrelevant.
Backing up what the source of this article said – Clutz is actually a pretty good place to work. I’ve worked at a few firms and been inhouse. Sure, you have to work hard, but that’s the same anywhere.
Maybe they have made a conscious effort to clean up their act after being involved in so many scandals.
Firmspy’s obsessed with clutz. We can’t put a foot right, it seems..
Pertinence, ‘intimacy’ would generally mean activity… which means it is both encouraged and discouraged, hence the contradiction.
This website harps on about depression/lack of healthy initiatives in the profession and how lawfirms are not doing enough, yet comes out and lambasts Clutz for doing *something* to address the issue?
does “doing something” really mean posting a HR blog on your intranet while also being one of the most poisonous, depressing, etc etc places to work??? I’ve been at Clutz for over 6 years now and can say that HR have nothing, if a partner wants you to slave away, you’ll slave away, no HR upbeat crap is going to change that
If you have been here for six years and hate it…. leave already!!!
I generally rate FS but this article is weak. I also wish you guys or girls would pick on another firm every now and then.
Anonymous, it’s people like you that make firms “depressing and poisonous etc etc”. I’ve been at clutz for 4 years, I’ve loved every moment. My partners are fair, good mentors and good fun when they want to be.
Stop the angst, and leave. Join the public service.
