I can tell you that Tom Bathurst QC, despite being at the pointy end of the Sydney Commercial Bar, charges nothing like $20,000 per day, although when compared to some who do he is easily worth it. And unlike some of the others who occupy a similar privileged position, he is both companionable and sparing in the manner in which he charges for his time. It’s not so much that I am President of Tom’s fan club, it’s simply that I bear the scars of working with some of his less companiable colleagues.
