Splashed arcoss national media yesterday was yet another sordid tale emanating out of besieged national law firm Clayton Utz. It involved a sacked Clutz lawyer, Michael Mitchell, who apparently sent a Facebook message to a Clayton Utz human resources manager saying he was making a discrimination claim against her and needed her address to serve documents.
Joe Catanzariti, a Clayton Utz partner and the president of the NSW Law Society, objected to the apparently harmless message and advised Mitchell:
”Clayton Utz … will not countenance any stalking, harassment or intimidation of its staff … Affected individuals may want to take independent legal and other steps to protect themselves.’
Stalking? Harassment??? INTIMIDATION?????
The man asked for an address! One would expect that a lawyer such as Catanzariti, who professes expertise in employee relations, would have a more robust conceptualisation of what form of conduct is harassing or intimidatory in nature. But then, it would appear that Catanziriti also comports himself in a questionable, potentially harassing fashion. For example, take this from 2004:
As Catanzariti explains, individuals today are more aware of their rights ... They know not to openly display racist, homophobic or sexist behaviour…
Yet, in April 2009, Catanzariti declared:
No! I’m no Rock Hudson!
Hmmm, sounds to us like a homophobe someone doesn’t want to be associated with an iconic gay actor. Ironically, when asked ‘what is your greatest regret’, Catanzariti responded in January this year:
taking the safe course and becoming a lawyer rather than an actor.
But Joe, you have such a wonderful face for … an office!

Catanzariti should resign as president of the law society
Thanks Joe Catanzariti, you are making it easier for everyone else to steal Clayton Utz’s clients
The author needs to get his or her facts straight.
While I can’t comment on Michael’s alleged crime his penchant for wearing pale brown loafers with dark trousers should be illegal
